新宿区 (Shinjuku City). 2013.
Say New York City had 6 different Manhattans and twice as many boroughs, all connected by a complex spiderweb of metro lines owned by various companies (JR East, etc.). That’s kind of how Tokyo is structured. It’s pretty overwhelming to try and wrap your head around how massive this place is, especially as a westerner.
Shinjuku is one of the main urban areas in Tokyo, along with other city centers such as Harajuku, Ueno, Shibuya, Akihabara, etc. Each has its own charm and character. Shinjuku is a great example of modern Japan - with towering electronics stores, the biggest Uniqlo in Japan, and lots of interesting shops and food.
